Bottlenose Dolphin Found Dead in Cebu

A dead Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin has been found by a fisherfolk from Sagay City, Negros Occidental at Bantayan Island in Cebu.

On Monday (April 22, 2019), a fisherman named Junior Abuyo found the sea creature floating as he went fishing.

Abuyo saw the Bottlenose Dolphin floating near the town of Madridejos in the province of Cebu.

The fisherfolk brought and turned over the dolphin to Sagay Marine Reserve (SMR) at Suyac Island in Cebu.

The Sagay Marine Reserve would conduct the proper disposition of the dead Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin found in Bantayan Island.

The dolphin was buried at the sanitary landfill in the city of Sagay.

Jose Roberto Togle, resource assessment head of SMR explained that the specie died due to punctured wound and entanglement.

Previously, deep-sea creatures such as oarfish are linked to consecutive earthquakes and other natural calamities experienced in different regions of the country.

A Japanese seismologist stated that deep-sea creatures are sensitive to irregularities happening at the bottom of the ocean.
