Spreading Text Messages About Forthcoming Magnitude 8.0 Earthquake Disclosed by NDRRMC
NDRRMC has warned the public regarding the circulating text messages about a forthcoming magnitude 8.0 earthquake.
On Tuesday evening (April 23, 2019), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council called the spreading text messages about the alleged upcoming magnitude 8.0 earthquake are hoax.
The agency explained that they are using the account “NDRRMC” when sending alerts or notifications.
The group also said that they are not using regular phone numbers when sending text messages alerting the public.
“Napag-alaman ng OCD-NDRRMC na may lumaganap na text messages patungkol sa 8.0 magnitude na lindol. Nais naming ipahayag na ang mga nasabing text messages ay hoax lamang at walang katotohanan,” NDRRMC said.
The risk reduction team also discourages the public to share similar posts and avoid linking such reports on social media.
However, the public should remain prepare and alert for possible calamities and disasters.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) explained that there is no technology or equipment has been developed yet to predict earthquakes.
