Former Matinee Idol Jose Mari Gonzales Passes Away

JOSE MARI GONZALES – Former matinee idol Jose Mari Gonzales passed away at the age of 80 on April 16, 2019.

Politician, actor, and matinee idol Jose Mari Gonzales started his showbiz career at the age of 17.

He appeared on several movies including Mga Anghel Sa Lansangan, Baby Face, and Handsome among others.

The film production company, Sampaguita Pictures, made Jose Mari Gonzales one of the country’s matinee idol.

He worked with great actors like Susan Roces, Eddie Gutierrez, Amalia Fuentes, and Dolphy Quizon.

Gonzales is among the stars who were enlisted in the Eastwood City Walk of Fame in Quezon City.

Sadly, Jose Mari Gonzales dies on April 16 the age of 80. The news was revealed by a showbiz writer and their family’s close friend, Aster Amoyo.

The writer announced the death of the former matinee idol on social media. Based on the caption of her post, he died at the hospital due to pneumonia and cardiac arrest.

“Jose Mari Gonzalez and dad of singer-actress-politician Cristina ‘Kring-Kring’ Gonzalez-Romualdez passed away this morning at 6:30 am due to pneumonia and cardiac arrest at the ICU Asian Hospital and Medical Center,” she said.

Aster Amoyo also stated on her post that the late actor’s wake will be at Heritage Memorial Chapel in Taguig City.

“His wake starts tomorrow at the Heritage Memorial Chapel in Taguig City up to Friday, Interment to be announced later. Let us pray for the repose of his soul,” she added.

Jose Mari Gonzales’ daughter Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez confirmed the sad news and expressed her grief on her Facebook account.

“Goodbye Dad! You have been a Blessing to Mom me jolong mile anna chemari and to our family. I am blessed to have you as my father,” said Cristina.
