Political Candidates Are Not Allowed To Continue Campaigning During Maundy Thursday And Good Friday
CANDIDATES PROHIBITED – This coming Thursday and Friday (April 18 and 19, 2019), political candidates are not allowed to continue campaigning.
May Elections 2019 is almost here and candidates are taking their best shots at effective campaigning. However the coming sacred days are not to be taken advantage of by campaigning in huge ‘Holy Week’ crowds.
Here are some important things that you need to know about the 2019 May Elections.
Holy Week activities such as Visita Iglesia is a Chistian tradition that millions of Filipinos participate in. This, coming days it is already expected that Holy Week participants will fill the streets in huge crowds.
Meanwhile, Commission on Elections or COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez brought up the reminder for political candidates not to campaign in the next two days.

The COMELEC spokesperson announced his reminder on a Twitter post:
“Bukas at sa Biernes, ipinagbabawal ang pangangampanya – ilang mga halimbawa: ang mga pa-caravan, motorcade, rally, walk-around, public speeches, at pagdi-distribute ng mga polyeto.”
“Tomorrow and on Friday, campaigning will be prohibited – Some examples are: caravans, motorcades, rally, walk-around, public speeches and distribution of pamphlets.”
On the other hand, Commissioner Luie Guia also reminded that campaigning during these days are prohibited by the law and would be considered as an election offense.
Violators could by punished with one to six years imprisonment, disqualification from the public office and withdrawal of suffrage.
It was also asked by an environmental watchdog that candidates refrain from flooding the streets with campaign materials that may end up in pilgrimage sites.
