Nine Churches And Chapels Were Opened In Intramuros For Visita Iglesia

CHURCHES AND CHAPELS – Intramuros opens nine churches and chapels as prayer grounds for visitors for this years Seven Churches Visitation or Visita Iglesia.

Visita Iglesia – the Catholic tradition of visiting at least seven churches on Maundy Thursday – is only one of the Catholic traditions that Filipinos follow. Checkout this list of traditional activities most Filipinos do during Holy Week.

From April 18 (Thursday) to April 20 (Saturday), these churches will be open for visitors. According to Intramuros Administraion or IA and Department of Tourism or DOT.

This is according to an article from Inquirer.

Based on the article, the churches and chapels that would be open for visitors are:

  • Manila Cathedral,
  • San Agustin Parish Church,
  • Fr. Willman chapel at the Knights of Columbus Building,
  • Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila chapel,
  • Mapua University chapel,
  • Lyceum of the Philippines University chapel,
  • Colegio de San Juan de Letran chapel,
  • St. Matthew’s chapel at the Bureau of Internal Revenue building and,
  • Guadalupe Shrine at Fort Santiago.

Seven of these churches and chapels were available for visitors during the 2018 Holy Week. And on normal days, Manila Cathedral and San Agustin Church are the only churches open for visitors.

Displays for stations of the cross would be available from April 18 to April 20 on General Luna Street (From Beaterio to Muralla).

Penetencia staged by Cainta NAzareno Inc. will also be displayed on April 18 (Maundy Thursday) on Plaza Roma, 7pm.

General Luna Street would be closed on the night of April 17 (Holy Wednesday) until April 19 (Good Friday) to avoid traffic. Parking spaces will be set on various locations.
