Court Finds Former AFP Comptroller Jacinto Ligot Guilty of Perjury

Jacinto Ligot, a retired lieutenant general and former comptroller of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), was found guilty of perjury.

Not only politicians but as well as officials of the government and public agencies and sectors are required to submit their Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth or more commonly called as SALN.

The SALN is a document where a person declares his or her assets and liabilities. Undeniably, in the history of the Philippines, a lot of people were charged for false declarations in their SALNs.

One of those who were accused of having false declarations in their SALN is retired lieutenant General Jacinto Ligot. The Sandiganbayan recently found him guilty of perjury.

Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, the anti-graft court found Ligot guilty of six(6) counts of perjury that was previously filed against him by the Ombudsman.

The complaint of the Office of the Ombudsman covers the alleged false declarations in the 1993-2003 SALN of the retired lieutenant general.

According to the report, Sandiganbayan also found Ligot not guilt in three(3) counts of perjury. The two(2) other counts of perjury filed against him were dismissed.

As of this writing, there are still no further updates regarding the Sandiganbayan’s decision.
