Rolling Brownouts Expected After Red Alert Raised in Luzon
Luzon grid has been placed under red alert warning the affected Filipino power consumers of rolling brownouts in the area.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) sends a notice raising a red alert in Luzon Grid and warned the public of possible power interruptions.
NGCP warned of power interruption on Wednesday (April 10, 2019) starting 2:00 pm up to 4:00 pm.
The possible brownout was due to the no contingency reserve or no generating capacity when another facility malfunctioned.
The system operator suggests rotating brownout in the affected areas during the hours when no power reserve in the system is available.
The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) would make further announcements regarding the possible areas affected by the rolling brownouts.
The power grid worsened condition came after the 647MW unit 1 of the 1,200 Sual coal-fired power plants.
However, the Department of Energy (DoE) assured the public that there is sufficient power supply despite the worsening grid situation.
Spot prices are also expected to increase due to the occurrence of red and yellow alerts in Luzon grid.
