Boeing 737 MAX 8 Makes Emergency Landing In Florida

The emergency landing of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft

A Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft made an emergency landing on Tuesday in Orlando, Florida due to an alleged engine problem.

The aircraft was ferried from Orlando International Airport to Victorville, California. However, it landed back to the airport when the two pilots aboard the flight reported: “a performance issue with one of the engines shortly after takeoff.”

Based on the report from CNN, Southwest Airlines Flight 8701 has no passengers aboard and it is supposed to transfer to California for storage.

“The crew followed protocol and safely landed back at the airport,” the airline stated.

US Federal Aviation Agency has earlier suspended the Boeing 737 MAX following two fatal crashes but the aircraft is being transferred from airport to airport.

According to investigation regarding the crashes, the problem appeared to be in an automated anti-stall system and not engine problems.

However, it is still unclear if the emergency landing on Tuesday is connected to the suspected problem.

Based on the report, the causes of the two crashes have yet to be determined.

On the other hand, the investigation focused on an “automatic safety feature which may have forced the nose of each plane lower when it incorrectly believed the plane was in danger of going into a stall.”

The emergency landing and the shutdown of the runway, fortunately, did not affect other traffic.

FAA is working with Boeing to come up with an upgrade of the planes’ software to deal with the safety feature.
