Peter Cayetano Says Preparation ‘In Full-Swing’ for SEA Games 2019
SEA GAMES 2019 – PHISGOC chairman Peter Cayetano said the preparation of the SEA Games 2019 is “in full-swing.”
The Southeast Asian Games or SEA Games is a multi-sport event that occurs every two years. The games are participated by 11 countries in Southeast Asia.
Delegates are from Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Timor-Leste, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Laos, Philippines, Malaysia, and Myanmar.
In 2017, the SEA Game’s main venue was at Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Malaysia and was opened by their King Muhammad V.
The 30th edition of the biennial sports event will be in the Philippines this coming November 30 to December 10.
Based on a report from Philstar, Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) chairman Alan Peter Cayetano spoke about the upcoming event. He reacted on the claims that the country couldn’t support the sports event due to financial reasons.
He said they will provide the “big and biggest Southeast Asian Games ever” even the budget was cut.
“We are unfazed and determined to make this successful,” he said.
According to the report, the PHISGOC projected to spend P7.5 billion but now they will have to work on the P5 million approved budget. They will also receive financial help from private sectors.
“We know that the budget limitation is a major factor. But our strong will to mount the best SEA Games in history for the sake of our athletes and the Filipino people is bigger than any other problem confronting us today,” Cayetano said.
Peter Cayetano stated that they are in full swing in creating the main venue in Capas, Tarlac.
“We are determined to pursue our task and responsibility which was given to us by President Duterte last year”
“The fast construction of these facilities proves the Duterte administration’s commitment to enhance Philippine sports development to produce more world-class athletes and to host international sporting events in the future,” he added.
Based on the report, Peter Cayetano stated that the country’s hosting the SEA Games will prevail.
“First of all, our SEA Games will push through. I don’t know why people are saying that it won’t,” said Cayetano.
