JUST IN: Datu Sajid Islam Uy Ampatuan Convicted of Malversation

Former Maguindanao Governor Datu Sajid Islam Uy Ampatuan is convicted of malversation and falsification charges.

The names of Ampatuans caught the nationwide attention, not only in Mindanao, when they were involved in the “Maguindanao Ambush“.

Andal Ampatuan Sr. and his son Andal Ampatuan Jr. the primary suspect in the said incident and they were incarcerated. The older Ampatuan died in 2015.

Apparenlty, the Ampatuan is one of the most prominent political clans in the region of Mindanao. Several of them are in various government positions.

Datu Sajid Islam Uy Ampatuan, the former governor of Maguindanao, based on the report from Inquirer, has been convicted of malversation.

Malversation means the misconduct in public office, corruption, misuse of public or other funds. For this, he was sentenced to reclusion perpetua and a fine of P35,740,493.

Governor Ampatuan is also convicted of falsification charges. He has to post a total of P1.58 million for his provisional liberty as he seeks legal remedies for his conviction. This is in line with the graft charges, based on the report.
