18 Policemen In Restrictive Custody After The Death Of Sariaya Mayor’s Son

18 policemen placed in restrictive custody for alleged “flawed” operation resulting to the death of Sariaya Mayor’s son

Following the death of the son of Sariaya, Quezon Mayor Marcelo Gayeta, 18 policemen were placed in restrictive custody for a supposed “flawed” operation.

Last March 14, about 4:00 AM, an attendant of a gasoline station texted the Tayabas Police Station. According to the message, two motorcycle-riding men allegedly threatened one of their pump attendants.

Based on the report from Manila Bulletin, one suspect allegedly ordered the gasoline attendant to kneel and threatened to kill him.

The report from Tayabas police stated that policemen chased the
two motorcycle-riding men. This resulted to a brief gunfight which resulted to the death of the two suspects, according to the report.

One of the alleged suspect turned out to be the son of Sariaya Mayor Gayeta, who was identified as Christian Tronila Gayeta, 21.

After this, last March 19, Police Director Lyndon Cubos ordered the relief of Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, the top police official in Quezon province, based on the report.

The family of Mayor Gayeta has already filed a complaint regarding this matter.

On March 20, 2019, the PNP regional office of CALABARZON released a letter stating that 18 policemen were placed in restrictive custody following the supposed “flawed” operation.
