MWSS Assures Public Plans Will Solve Metro Manila’s Water Supply Problems
MWSS – The public plans of MWSS will solve the water supply problems in Metro Manila and it’s nearby provinces.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) is a government agency that is responsible for Manila’s water privatization.
Following a previous article, several areas in Metro Manila and Rizal were affected by the water interruption due to the continuous decline of water in La Mesa Dam.
Among the cities and provinces that are suffering from water interruption include Makati City, Marikina City, Pasig City, Pateros, Taguig, Mandaluyong City, Quezon City, San Juan, Angono Rizal, Antipolo Rizal, Binangonan Rizal, Cainta Rizal, Jalajala Rizal, Rodriguez Rizal, San Mateo Rizal, Taytay Rizal, and Teresa Rizal.
The MWSS just revealed their short term and long term solution regarding the water supply problem in Metro Manila.
Based on a report from GMA, MWSS administrator Reynaldo Velasco stated that there will be adequate water supply in Metro Manila and nearby areas in the next 10 to 15 years.

According to the report, Reynaldo Velasco disclosed that they have taken these following measures:
“MWSS has requested the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) to allow Manila Water to activate deep wells that can supply 100 million liters daily to its consumers”
“MWSS requested Maynilad to allocate 50
“MWSS directed Manila Water to activate and operationalize its Cardona, Rizal treatment plant in order to provide an additional 100 mld to its consumers”
“MWSS plans to look into the proposal to construct a new treatment plant to preserve La Mesa Dam as a water reserve area in the future”
“To address the current shortage experienced by Manila Water, the MWSS said it has caused the allocation of at least 200 Million Liters per Day (MLD) to be provided by the East Zone concessionaire”
Based on the report, Reynaldo Velasco said Duterte’s administration has been taking the water problem seriously compared to the past administration.
The dams Velasco was referring to were: 500 MLD from Wawa Dam, 350 MLD from Bayabas Dam, 600 MLD Kaliwa Dam, the 800 MLD to be sourced from unutilized water from Angat-Norzagaray, and 500 MLD from Laguna Lake
