The Bureau of Fire Protection has released guidelines and some tips on how to prevent fire incident this Fire Prevention Month (March 2019).

March is considered as National Fire Prevention Month due to the increasing numbers of fire incidents in the country.

On Friday (March 1, 2019), different local government units in the country held various programs and activities in spreading fire safety awareness.

Fire volunteer brigades, fire safety education brigades, and other personnel joined the ceremonies.

Recently, the fire prevention department issued guidelines and effective tips to prevent fire incidents.

Here are some tips:

  • Keep flammable materials away from heat sources
  • Keep lighters and matchsticks away from children
  • Keep lighted candles away from curtains
  • Don’t smoke in bed.
  • Put out cigarette butts completely before throwing them away
  • Make sure the stove is shut off after cooking
  • Check the LPG tank and hose for leaks
  • Don’t overload electrical circuits
  • Replace frayed electrical wires
  • Store flammable liquids in a cool, dry place away from the kitchen
  • Practice a fire escape plan with all the members of the household
