Manila Bay Polluters: Popular Food Companies Included
Several popular food companies including Filipino restaurants and fast-food chains have been dubbed as Manila Bay polluters.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) slapped 20 more companies with cease-and-desist orders (CDOs).
Food firms including Jollibee branch on Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City, and Max’s Restaurant on Maria Orosa Street in Ermita, Manila received the LLDA’s order.

The companies tested positive for a significantly high level of fecal coliform reaching almost 160,000 most probable number (mpn) per 100 ml based on the water samples.
Jollibee has temporarily stopped its operation for the repair of the broken-down sewerage treatment plants.
Max’s Restaurant’s diners and crew members were surprised when LLDA served the cease-and-desist order.

LLDA
has also served CDOs to HengFeng Kitchenette on F.B. Harrison Street in
Pasay City, and Lamer Catering and Nihon Bashitei Japanese Food in Malate,
Manila.
The
authorities also served a show cause orders to Aloha Hostel, Sarmiti
Food Corp. (Shawarma Snack Center) and Orix Auto Leasing Philippines Corp
urging them to explain why they should not be closed.
Meanwhile, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration building in Pasay City were also given notices of violation for water pollution cases.
