Armida Siguion Reyna Dies At 88, Cause Of Death Revealed

Iconic stage actress Armida Siguion Reyna passed away at 88.

ARMIDA SIGUION REYNA – The Pinay iconic Pinay film and stage actress and former MTRCB chairperson died at the age of 88.

Actress and singer Armida Siguion Reyna died at the age of 88 on Monday, February 11, as per confirmation of her sister Irma Potenciano. She died of cancer on Monday afternoon at the Makati Medical Center.

She is the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) during the Estrada administration. Siguion-Reyna performed lead singing roles in theater in “Lucia de Lammermoor”, “Rigoletto”, “La Traviata”, “I Pagliacci”, “The Merry Widow”, and the zarzuela “Ang Mestiza” (The Mestiza).

As a film actress, she is known for portraying roles in Bwakaw, Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin, Inagaw Mo Ang Lahat Sa Akin, Una Kang Naging Akin, Wanted: Pamilya Banal, Hati Tayo Sa Magdamag, Kailan Sasabihing Mahal Kita, Paano Ba Ang Mangarap, and many more.

Armida’s brother, former Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile is mourning over great loss and expressed his grief. He asked the Filipino people to not forget her sister and her immense contribution to the entertainment industry.

Based on Rappler’s report, Enrile said he is happy now that she can rest despite pain over loss. He said, “Sa kabila nito, masaya na rin ako na makakapagpahinga siya.”

He further added, “Malaki ang kanyang naging kontribusyon sa larangan ng showbiz at isinulong niya ang wika natin sa kanyang mga kanta. Ipinagmamalaki ko na naging tanyag siya. Ang hinihingi ko lang sa mga Pilipino – lalo na sa kabataan – ay na ‘wag na ‘wag ninyo siyang kalimutan.”

Aside from all of her shows and films, Armida is most popular for her show “Aawitan Kita”. Her son Carlos Siguion-Reyna is a known director and her grandchildren, Cris Villonco and Rafa Siguion-Reyna are in theater and television.
