2 Students Drowned While Taking Selfie at a River in Cagayan

STUDENTS DROWNED – Two female students drowned while taking selfies at a river in Cagayan.

Taking selfies has been a worldwide trend. Celebrities or regular people take pictures of themselves wherever they go to show people.

Selfies purpose was to give an update on your whereabouts to all your friends in the social media where they can react and like.

Nowadays, people young and old took selfies to a higher level. They sometimes risk their lives just to take the perfect shot regardless of the weather, situation or anything dangerous.

There is a lot of reason why we should all be responsible for taking selfies in a certain place and time.

Based on a report from Manila Bulletin, a tragic incident happened recently at the Fulay River in Barangay Poblacion, Cagayan.

Two 13 years old female students named Judy Espiritu and May Delos Santos drowned after taking selfies on the said river.

According to the report, SP01 Raquel P. Tagudin handled the case and said the students were residents of Barangay Canaggatan, Baggao, Cagayan.

The inquisitor stated that the 2 students along with their Grade 8 classmates named Kaycee Galla, Daniella Suriaga, Sandra Sorita, and Nicole Nara went to the house of Espirito at around 2 in the afternoon last February 5 to make their school project.

Around 2:45 one of the victim Judy Espiritu encouraged her classmates to go swimming on the nearby river. All of them were swimming in the less deep portion of the river along with the two victims.

Espiritu and Delos Santos were pretending to be drowning while taking a selfie then suddenly a strong wave submerged both of them and brought them to the deep part of the river.

Based on the report, the two students were pronounced dead on arrival at the nearby hospital.

People must exercise safety and awareness of potential risks when taking selfies.
