DOTr Asking Public To Understand Water Bottle Ban on Trains

DOTr Wants Public Understanding on Water Bottle Ban on Trains As Part of Tightened Security

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) was asking for the understanding of the public over the ban of water bottles and other liquids on trains.

On Monday (February 4, 2019), DOTR’s communications director Goddess Hope Libiran was seeking understanding public over ban of bottled water and other liquids on trains to ensure the passengers’ safety.

The prohibition of bottled waters and other liquids came after the fatal bombing in Jolo Cathedral last week and grenade attack in a Mosque at Zamboanga City.

Libiran said that the stricter rules and regulations aim to protect the trains passengers from any terrorist threat that could take thousands of lives.

The DOTr chief clarified that the order came from the Philippine National Police (PNP) after the series of terrorist activities.

She also explained that the PNP will still decide if the order will be permanently imposed.

“Actually depende po ito sa magiging kautusan po ng Philippine National Police dahil sila po ‘yung nagbigay ng guidance sa aming mga railway lines na ipagbawal muna ‘yung mga bottled waters o any form of liquid na makapasok doon sa train stations,” Libiran said.

The authorities have also intensified the bag-checking and x-ray procedures on trains.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said that harmful chemicals are also prohibited inside the train that could put the lives of other passengers at danger.
