State of Calamity Declared Over Orion Town, Bataan
BATAAN – Orion town is declared under state of calamity following a huge fire catching a village.
Recently, a heartbreaking incident occurred in Orion town, Bataan. It affected thousands of families.
Based on a report on CNN, a huge fire that caught a village in Orion town, Bataan leaving one dead and more than a thousand families affected. It prompted the declaration of the State of Calamity in the town.
According to Section 3 of the Republic Act No. 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, the State of Calamity is declared when an occurrence resulted to mass damage of properties or loss of lives.
Speaking to CNN Philippines just today, Orion Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Office Chairman Emmanuel Gloria expressed that the fire that caught Orion Town started in Sitio Depensa, Barangay Capunitan.
Gloria also added that it started with two kids playing matchsticks and, unexpectedly, it fell in a mattress that can caught fire abruptly. The two children were confused and instead of pouring water to it, they poured gasoline.
Based on the report, 1,018 families in Orion Town, Bataan were affected by the huge fire that prompted the declaration of the state of calamity. There are 50 people who were left injured by the incident.
Based on a report on Philippine News Agency, Mayor Antonio Raymundo expressed that the state of calamity was declared to focus on the needs of the affected families.
Those who were victims of the huge fire were evacuated to Capunitan Elementary School and aid such as food and clothes are being extended to them.
According to the report, the Mayor expressed that most of the fire victims rely on fishing as their livelihood. They are from Masbate and Cebu. The government is doing their best to help the victims.
