South Cotabato Barangay Kagawad, Wife Shot By Riding-in-Tandem
SOUTH COTABATO BARANGAY KAGAWAD – An official of Barangay Rubber in Polomolok, South Cotabato was shot together with his wife.
Aside from the incident involving Quezon City Barangay Captain Criselle Beltran, there’s another recent attack involving a personality in politics – a barangay official of Barangay Rubber, Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, while riding a motorcycle on their way home on Wednesday morning, South Cotabato Barangay Kagawad Lemuel Cariaga and his wife were shot by still unidentified persons.
The persons who attacked the couple were also aboard a motorcycle. Cariaga was rushed to the hospital but he did not survive. His wife was left wounded by the incident.
The initial investigation reportedly showed that the Barangay Kagawad and his wife were from the municipal hall and they were supposedly on their way to their residence.
Based on the report, Cariaga is the second barangay kagawad in the place to be shot. The first case was in October 2018 wherein the late kagawad Rhod Ubpon was also attacked by a riding-in-tandem.
According to Polomolo Police Chief Supt. Samuel Cadungon, the incident could be related to the work of Cariaga as the head of the peace and order committee in the place.
Prior to the incident, there were already threats in his life. In June 2018, their house was also attacked but no one got injured. As of this writing, the investigation is still ongoing.
We’ll keep you posted for updates.
Philnews.ph would like to extend our condolences to the family of Lemuel Cariaga.
