People find this kind of money transaction safe, convenient and fast. Remittance service providers or pawnshops charge a service fee for each transaction.
Meanwhile, the Cebuana Lhuillier pawnshop recently reported that they have suffered a data breach on all their branches in the country.
Based on the report from Manila Bulletin, this current issue of this pawnshop could risk their customer’s personal data.
The hacking of these data from the Cebuana Lhuillier happened after the data breach of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
According to the report, this incident could affect a possible identity theft and the manipulation of the upcoming 2019 elections.
Last Saturday, January 19, Cebuana Lhuiller’s Data Privacy Officer announced to all its customers and clients about the data breach.
“We are writing to inform you of a security incident which may have affected your personal data stored in one of our email marketing tool servers”
Based on the report, Cebuana Lhuillier revealed that they detected the data breach last January 15. Their service is currently offline to minimize the harm.
“Upon discovery, remedial actions were taken to reduce the harm. The server was immediately disconnected from the network after confirmation of breach,” it added.
The company are currently investigating the issue and would probably propose more secure and safe transactions in the future.
