DENR Plans To Relocate 40,000 Informal Settler For Manila Bay’s Rehab

DENR Plans To Relocate Manila Bay’s 40,000 Informal Settler Families When Rehab Starts

DENR – The DENR plan to relocate the 40,000 informal settler families near the Manila Bay.

There are thousands of families in the Philippines who are informal settlers. They are the unfortunate people who have no choice but to live on someone’s land illegally.

Some informal settlers were settled their houses on lands that have no legal claims like the slums and squatter areas.

These people couldn’t afford to settle on a permanent house because it’s expensive and couldn’t pay a monthly rent.

Informal settlers just create their own post in the squatters without paying anything. However, the squatters have also caused a negative effect on the status of Manila Bay.

In a previous article, President Duterte recently approved the rehabilitation of Manila Bay after seven years.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, DENR reported that most of the water waste in Manila Bay was caused by the 40,000 informal settlers.

The DENR roam around the area to evaluate the quality of its water before the rehabilitation.

One of the DENR’s aim was to resolve the issue of the settlers in Baseco Compound who allegedly throws water waste in the ocean water.

According to the report, the Baseco Compound was previously part of the ocean water but now transformed into land due to the garbage that was frequently thrown in that area.

One of the residents said that they have no choice but to throw their garbage and waste in Manila Bay. The settlers were okay about the plan on relocating them as long as it is peaceful.

Based on the report, DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu said that aside from the informal settlers, they were also concerned about the ships and establishments near the Manila Bay.

“As we go around talaga, the more challenging ang nasasagupa natin so ‘yang aming estimates noon, medyo nadadagdagan now,” said Cimatu.

After the DENR’s observation on Manila Bay’s issue, they will immediately start the rehabilitation program.
