First Potential Storm This 2019 As It Draws Near Philippines

PHILIPPINES – A low pressure area draws closer to Philippines on Monday (January 14), could possibly be the first tropical storm in 2019, PAGASA says.

According to ABS-CBN News, the low pressure area was spotted 3,240 kilometers east of Mindanao at 3AM on Monday. PAGASA weather forecaster Jomaila Garrido said that the LPA may intensify into a tropical depression and will enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this coming Friday or Saturday.

Garrido further said in her Facebook page that the first storm will be named “Amang”.

On the other hand, Garrido warned that the tail end of a cold front will bring occasionally heavy rains, which could cause floods and landslides in the Soccsksargen and Davao regions.

As per the report, She further added that the amihan or
cold air blowing from the northeast will bring light rainfall over Cagayan valley. The amihan will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies to Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
