About 100 Devotees Suffered Injuries during First Hour of Traslacion 2019
More than 100 devotees got injured during the first few hours of Traslacion 2019 or the annual feast of the Black Nazarene.
On Wednesday (January 9, 2019), the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said that about 103 Filipino devotees suffered minor injuries as early as 7am during the start of this year’s traslacion.
The injured devotees suffered punctures, bruises, and lacerations while seven suffered major injuries such as burns, fractures, and difficulty of breathing.
PRC said that one of the injured devotees has been rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate health care.
Around 5:08 am, the “Andas” or carriage of the Black Nazarene on its way back to Quiapo Church started.
Over 400 Black Nazarene’s devotees sought medical assistance during the first few hours of the annual religious event.
The Philippine Red Cross have also checked the blood pressure of about 314 participants who complained of suffering dizziness.
Millions of devotees are expected to join the Traslacion of the wooden statue this year.
