Mayon & Kanlaon Volcano (Unrest Level) Latest Updates Released By Phivolcs
The state volcanology agency Phivolcs has issued the latest updates regarding Mayon and Kanlaon volcano, which are under unrest level.
On Monday (December 10, 2018), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that Mayon and Kanlaon volcano is under a moderate level of unrest.
Phivolcs said that Mayon Volcano is under alert level 2 after generating an ash emission event spewing grayish-brown ash plume for about 4 minutes and a volcanic earthquake, which started on Sunday (December 9, 2018).
Sudden explosions such as lava collapse might exist over the upper to middle slopes of Mayon Volcano.
The residents are not allowed to enter the 6-kilometer permanent danger zone and aircraft are also prohibited to fly close to Mayon’s summit.
The seismology agency said that Kanlaon volcano is also under alert level 2 due to the probable intrusion of magma at a depth that may or may not lead to a magmatic eruption.
Sixteen volcanic earthquakes were also recorded by Kanlaon’s volcanic monitoring network.
The public is prohibited to enter the 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone in Kanlaon and pilots are also advised to avoid flying near the volcano’s summit.
