Transport Groups Decline P2 Fare Rebate Request Despite Successive Fuel Rollbacks
TRANSPORT GROUPS – Commuters requested for P2 fare rebate but transport groups declined it despite successive fuel rollbacks.
The oil companies have rollback fuel prices since last November 13, 2018. After the inflation of the commodity prices, there has been a series of rollbacks of fuel price.
If the price of oil is high, the price of the commodities is automatically lifted. The poor Filipino pockets ache every time it happens.
Due to the successive petroleum rollbacks, commuters expected the transport groups to decrease the jeepney and bus fare.
Based on a report from Bombo Radyo, the transport group Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP) stated that it is not yet the time for them to have a fare rollback.
Head of FEJODAP Zeny Maranan stated that they are still keeping their promise to soon have a fare rollback if the price of the petroleum gas arrives at the price of P38-P39 per liter.
According to the report, transport group head specifically instructed that if Metro Manila could hit on that fuel price level, they would decrease the fare.
They declined the request on diminishing the P2 fare increase on Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and Calabarzon despite the successive rollback.
Maranan expressed that they are not impressed with the decrease in oil price because as they roam around the cities they said the price still high.
Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO) chairman Efren De Luna stated that there is still a long way to go before they will approve the request for fare rollback.
Based on the report, De Luna is uncertain if the current petroleum price could stay this cheap in the world market.
One of the transport group leaders, Ober Martin, said they are certain of their promise but they would only take it back if the price of fuel drop to a lower price.
Surely all Filipinos are waiting for the desired fare rollback but the transport groups are also concerned about the welfare of the jeepney and bus drivers so it won’t be unfair to them.
