Relatives of the Victims of the Maguindanao Incident Gather for Holy Mass on 9th Year Anniversary
MAGUINDANAO – Relatives of the Maguindanao victims gathered for a Holy Mass on the 9th anniversary of the incident.
Last November 23, 2009, 58 people were shot on separate vehicles in going to the Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao Provincial Capitol. They were on their way to file for Magudadatu’s candidacy for governor in the 2010 elections.
They were allegedly flagged down by men of the Ampatuan family as they positioned in the middle of the highway and shot them.
The Ampatuan clan allegedly did such crime to anoint former Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. as a candidate for the governor post. He is currently detained and sued for the alleged crime.
President Rodrigo Duterte promised to help the victims of the Maguindanao incident. He urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to speed-up the Maguindanao trial case.
Duterte dreamed of witnessing the conviction of the culprits before his term ends.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, the relatives of the victims recently gathered for a Holy Mass to commemorate the 9th death anniversary of their loved ones.
Wife of one of the victims, Mary Grace Morales, expressed that they can’t easily continue with their lives considering they still haven’t got justice for her husband.
“Hindi namin mapatuloy yung buhay namin kung mabubuhay kami sa sakit ng nakaraan kaya kaylangan naming umusad,” she said.
According to the report, the family of the victims of the Maguindanao incident recently got a news that the court is about to release the final judgment on the case.
For 9 years of long wait, these poor families finally saw a glimpse of hope in their pursuit to get justice for their lost loved ones.
