Overseas Filipino Worker Duped By Woman, Loses Cash Amounting To ₱300,000 And Items
OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKER – An Overseas Filipino Worker lost her personal items and cash cash amounting to ₱300,000 in NAIA Terminal 3 on Tuesday.
OFW Germelie Martin recently arrived in the Philippines from Hong Kong, where she worked as a Domestic Helper. According to her, a woman befriended her while she was standing by at a departure area for a flight to Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Martin said in her complaint that the lady managed to convince her to withdraw her money from a nearby ATM. She was also told to surrender her belongings (jewelry, passport, and cell phone) to the suspect. The money is for reclaiming a pawned property, said Martin.
An article in ABS-CBN News said that Martin worked hard to earn the cash but the suspect took t without breaking a sweat.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal said that the victim identified the lady via a rogues’ gallery. In a follow-up operation, they managed to capture the said suspect. The police recovered some stolen items and cash amounting to ₱65,000 from the suspect.
As per the report, the suspect, whose name is censored due to the pending the filing of a formal complaint in court, was also involved in other incidents victimizing returning OFWs, said Monreal.
The complaint of theft and resisting arrest will be filed against the suspect.
