Canned Sardines Will Have An Increase Of Price This December
CANNED SARDINES – The canned sardines price will increase from ₱0.50 to ₱0.60 which will begin in December 1, 2018 (Saturday).
Canned Sardines Association of the Philippines President Marvin Lim said that the increase was due to the price hike of raw materials such as fish and petroleum in the recent months. He further implied that there were other many factors explaining the price hike.
Lim further said that the hike was supposed to take effect on September 1. However, the Department of Trade and Industry, specifically secretary Mon Lopez, told them to delay for three months in order for consumers to adjust to the inflation.
An article in GMA News said that the recent drop in fuel prices may be a good development but it gave little effect on the stocks of sardines currently in the market, as said by Lim, noting that the stock level last to three to six months.
As per the report, Lim finally said that the said adjustment, if increased, may depend on the situation but it may not be possible if the prices of goods remain stable. Given the situation, they try to be careful, Lim said.
