Meet the 87-Year-Old Ibarra Mariano Who Strives to Become A Lawyer
IBARRA MARIANO – Retired Police Colonel Ibarra Mariano is an 87-years-old man who strives to become a lawyer someday.
Mariano is a native of Tacloban and he realized that he was never too old to set another goal or to dream like entering law school.
He has been serving the government for decades as an officer of the Philippine Constabulary which is later known as the Philippine National Police.
Based on the report from ABS-CBN, Ibarra Mariano graduated Philippine Law School in 1967 but it took a while for him to take the bar exam.
He only had the opportunity to have it after his retirement from his service as a police officer in 1995 but failed with a 70-percent grade.
Mariano spent his days at schools lecturing the new police on how to lose and to survive in combat.
51 years after school, Ibarra Mariano is still hopeful on his second attempt to be a lawyer in order to help other people and fix the unruly cops.
Mariano was among the first to finish the second set of bar examinations and come out of the University of Santo Tomas.
The retired police colonel wore a transparent backpack and ID with his reviewer on his right hand. He is one of the oldest among the 8,701 bar examinees this year.
According to the report, Ibarra Mariano shared what he thought about the exam. He said it was not really hard but it is confusing and time-consuming.
“All the important provisions of law are not even asked in the bar (examination),” Mariano added.
Mariano said he had worries about his handwriting which have been affected by his age. He just hoped the bar examiner would understand his answers.
Ibarra Mariano stated he wanted to be a lawyer before he passes away. “That’s why I took the interest to take it now [while] I can still write, I can still walk around alone,” he said.
Based on the report, he doesn’t mind spending hours reading and answering the exam of the laws just to achieve his lifelong dream.
He said he prayed to God that he’ll be given good health to finish the bar exam so that he will become a lawyer by next year.
If you really want to do something, don’t make age a hindrance to your objective like what this 87-year-old man did to achieve his dream.
