FIL-AM – A Fil-Am named Alaina Punzalan Housley is one of the twelve victims killed during a shootout incident in Thousand Oaks, California.

Alaina is the child of Hannah Punzalan Housley and the niece of Hollywood actress Tamera Mowry-Housley. She is a freshman in Pepperdine University.


On Tamera’s statement given to USA TODAY, she said that their hearts were broken as they found out their niece was one of the victims of a shooting in at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California. She further added that she (Alaina) was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and they are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. They end the statement with a thanks for their prayers and asked for privacy.

A report from ABS-CBN News states that the shooter was identified as Ian David Long, a 28-year-old who shot himself after a massacre.

The shooter was found dead in the office Borderline Bar and Grill, located in Thousand Oaks, after the incident at about 11:30PM PST on Wednesday (7:30 GMT Thursday). Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said that Long seemingly fired a random with a  .45-caliber Glock handgun with an extra-capacity magazine. The motive of the shooting remain unknown, Dean further added.

As per the report, Long was in the Marine Corps from 2008 to 2013, reaching the rank of corporal, and served as a machine gunner who was deployed to Afghanistan for 8 months. Dean said that Long is possibly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The shooting in California is the most recent gun incident, thus, reviving the debate of gun control. The previous one was a man killing 11 worshippers at a synagogue in Pittsburgh while saying “All Jews must die”
