MISLATEL CONSORTIUM – The National Telecommunications Commission declared Misatel Consortium the third telco group on Wednesday (Nov 7).

In the previous article, on that same day, there are three competing bidders who will claim the third slot, thus becoming the third telco group who will compete against Globe Telecommunications and PLDT.

Here were the following bidders:

  • Mislatel consortium – an Udenna Group and China Telecom partnership firm;
  • Tier1 – a firm supported by Chavit Singson’s LRC firm; and
  • Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp – a firm founded in 1962

The computer will determine which meets the highest committed level of service criteria. Then the officials will check the documents before the slot is granted, which is now given to Mislatel as their bid documents are considered “qualified” and “complete”

A report in GMA News says that during the selection process, NTC said that the first package sent by Mislatel is complete, in which the detailed evaluation of the second package is no longer needed. The consortium scored 456.80 points out of 500 in its level of commitment.

Mislatel or The Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company Inc. gained the following scores:

  • 172 points for coverage;
  • 111 points for speed; and
  • 175 points for capital expenditure and operations expenditures

As per the report, NTC will now examine Mislatel’s commitment with regards to internet coverage and speed once its status as the new major player in the telecom industry is officialy confirmed.

The company, in a statement, welcomes the announcement of the National Telecommunications Commission Selection Committee declaring them as the new third telco player in the industry. As they wait for the confirmation, they are thankful for the committee for carefully reviewing the entries and presenting a historic opportunity to provide the best telecommunications services that Filipinos have been aspiring for.
