Rice Retailers Request To Postpone the Implementation of SRP

Rice Retailers Request the Government To Postpone the SRP Implementation

Rice retailers requested the government to postpone the implementation of rice’s suggested retail price (SRP).

The Department of Agriculture recently imposed an SRP for the 5 special and fancy rice varieties.

This is to prevent the customers from being fooled into buying fake rice variants.

Rice labels such as SinandomengSuper AngelicaYummy RiceMindoro Dinurado, and Double Diamond will be restricted in the market.

Based on the report from ABS-CBN news, the implementation of rice’s new suggested retail price will start this Saturday, October 27.

Some rice retailers favored the new SRP because they will now have a few classifications for these rice varieties.

However, they requested to postpone it for the reason that they have several stocks which they previously bought on higher a price.

The Director of NFA Region 2, Rocky Valdez, noted the conflict of the rice retailers and the millers. That issue may cause some disagreements on both parties.

The rice retailers are currently experiencing the slack of rice sale. It would take three to six months for all the stocked rice to be totally disposed.

The consumers mostly buy the NFA rice in the market and that is the reason behind the delay of the sale for the commercial rice.

According to the report, there are 104, 000 NFA rice stocks for the whole Region 2 and it could last until December.

The Region 2 government are confident that their supply of rice won’t be limited for they can only buy P20 per kilo on their local rice farmers.

These rice retailers certainly have a tight competition with the NFA rice. They might only be able to let go of it by selling their commercial rice for a lower price.
