Malacañang Palace To Filipinos Over Another Round of Fare Hikes: “Magtiis Muna”
The Malacañang Palace appealed for understanding from the Filipino people stating “Magtiis Muna” over another round of fare hikes.
On Friday (October 19, 2018), Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo asked for understanding from the Filipino people amid fare hikes in the country.
Panelo’s statement came after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the P2 price hike for public utility jeepneys starting Nov. 3.
The spokesperson explained that the government had no choice but to allow the fare increase because of the escalating oil prices in the world market.
The Palace executive also urged the public to understand the fare hike citing the rollback in the oil prices based on the history.
“We have to accept the fact na talagang masama ang panahon, so magtiis muna tayo,” Panelo said.
“Hindi natin kontrolado ngayon iyong panahon kung saan nagtataasan ang presyo ng langis and apektado ang lahat, globally. But hopefully, that will taper down kasi history naman shows, bumababa rin naman ang presyo ng langis ‘di ba?” Panelo added quoted by ABS-CBN.
Metro Manila workers were also calling for the approval of the wage hike due to the soaring prices of commodities and fare on buses and jeepneys.
