Blogger Olivar Drew Flak From Mental Health Advocates Over Anti-UP Activists ‘Suicide’ Vlog
The blogger Drew Olivar receives criticisms from mental health advocates over encouraging anti-UP activists to commit suicide.
Earlier this week, Dr. Raymond John Naguit, chairing the Youth for Mental Health Coalition (Y4MH) lambasted the anti-UP activists ‘suicide’ vlog posted by the pro-Duterte blogger Drew Olivar.
The blogger allegedly encouraged the student activists of the University of the Philippines (UP) to hang themselves from the symbolic statue of the school.
Naguit said that Olivar’s vlog offended the people who lost their family members and friends due to suicide.
He also said that mental health advocacy groups are working hard to promote responsible reporting about mental health.
The mental health advocate explained that topics suicide and self-harm must be discussed with appropriate seriousness.
“Bakit pag ang gobyerno o kaalyado ng administrasyon, ay hirap na hirap tayo sa pagsingil ng accountability?” Naguit said quoted by GMA.
Olivar has been also involved in various issues and controversies including the “Pe-de-ralismo” video together with PCOO Asec. Mocha Uson and his controversial video pretending to use sign language offending the deaf-mute community.
In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Department of Health (DOH), and Natasha Goulbourn Foundation have launched a 24/7 suicide prevention hotline called ‘Hopeline’.
