Mild Quakes Hits Surigao del Sur Today (September 22), PHIVOLCS Says

The state volcanology agency Phivolcs reported that two mild quakes struck the province of Surigao del Sur early morning today.

On Saturday (September 22, 2018), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced the Surigao del Sur province has been struck by two earthquakes.

At 12:15 midnight, a magnitude 2.5 tremor struck the province wherein its epicenter was located at 31 km. southwest of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur with a depth of 117 kilometers.

Around 1;03 am, a magnitude 3.1 earthquake with an epicenter located 27 kilometers (km) southeast of the town of Lingig was also recorded.

The weather agency explained that the second tremor had a depth of about 22 kilometers.

Phivolcs described the two earthquakes that shook the province of Surigao del Sur as tectonic in origin.

Mild Quakes

The Surigao del Sur and Tandag City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils said that there are no damage or casualties recorded as of this writing.
