Major Earthquake Jolts Fiji Coast
EARTHQUAKE – A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 jolted off the Fiji Coast, Friday morning.
Recently, the United States Geological Survey or USGS reported that an earthquake hit off the Fiji Coast. The said area is located within the “Ring of Fire” making it prone to quakes.
Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, USGS reported that the quake has a magnitude of 7.8. The epicenter was located at 102 kilometers or 63 miles southeast of Suva.
According to USGS, the Pacific Ocean archipelago ocean would have experienced “light shaking” brought by the major quake.
Based on the report, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center expressed that the quake is too deep thus there is no tsunami risk. It hit 609 kilometers below the ground.
