Philippine music industry says goodbye to Hotdog lead guitarist Rene Garcia

Lead guitarist Rene Garcia of 70s band, Hotdog, passed away at the age of 65.

He died last September 2, Sunday, 6:20 PM due to cardiac arrest. Garcia had been a great part of OPM as he created the hit song ‘Manila’.

During their era, the Hotdog band became the pioneering group of “Manila Sound”. They had set a standard of a unique Filipino music.

With the passing away of one of the pillars of the said genre, the music industry has lost a great member. Some celebrities have already expressed their sadness in saying goodbye to Garcia.

Based on the article published in PEP, among the celebrities who took to social media their farewell to the lead guitarist are Boy Katindig, Winston Baltazar, Kedy Sanchez, Tato Malay, and Moy Ortiz.

This news definitely saddened those people whose lives where touched by the music of Hotdog.

The band popularized the songs that have been immortalized. Some of their hit tracks are ‘Ikaw ang Miss Universe ng Buhay Ko’, ‘Bongga Ka Day’, ‘Annie Batungbakal’ and ‘Pers Lab’.

Aside from their hit songs, the band was also one of the contributory factors why some artist made it to stardom. They helped the careers of Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla and singer Odette Quesada, based on the article.

Rene Garcia may say goodbye to the world of Philippine music industry but the legacy of Hotdog will always be remembered.
