Pres. Duterte Appoints New Chief Justice of Supreme Court
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed Senior Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro as new Chief Justice.
The appointment of former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno was voided. In line with it, another person has to take the seat and be the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Based on a recent post on the Facebook page of Philippine Star, Pres. Duterte has already made an appointment. The 73-year-old Chief Executive appointed Senior Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro.
It is stated that De Castro will serve as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for less than two months. She is set to retire this October. She was also previously appointed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to SC in 2007.
Based on the social media post, De Castro is the first female Chief Justice of the Philippines. She is in the government service for more than four decades already.
