Two Storms Continue To Create Heavy Downpour, Six People Reportedly Dead

North Areas Of Philippines Affected By Heavy Downpour Caused By Two Storms

TWO STORMS – The northern parts of the country will still continue to face heavy downpour caused by two storms outside Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Based on the report, PAGASA reported that at least five (5) weather systems are spotted around the country. The said weather systems also enhance the southwest monsoon or locally known as “Habagat” causing rains over most parts of Luzon.

Elsewhere, another low-pressure area was also spotted within PAR which would affect the country’s weather condition. It enhances  the southwest monsoon that would bring rainfall to the following:

  • Metro Manila;
  • The Ilocos Region;
  • The Cordillera Administrative Region;
  • Central Luzon;
  • Calabarzon;
  • Oriental Mindoro; and
  • Occidental Mindoro.

That being said, on Monday, the Supreme Court and Congress suspended their work at 12 noon due to the bad weather. The House of Representatives, however, kept a skeletal force due to the reason that some committee hearings will proceed.

More importantly, according to weather specialist Ariel Rojas, the weather will likely improve on Thursday. He further added that Visayas and Mindanao will still continue to experience fair weather.

The two tropical storms, “Leepi” and “Bebinca,” though outside PAR, enhanced the effects of Habagat. Leepi was 1,820 kilometers east-northeast of Batanes; while Bebinca was spotted 925 km of Northern Luzon, according to Rojas.

According to a report from Inquirer, at least six people were reported dead due to the flooding which affected huge areas of Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon:

  • Three people reportedly died in Quezon City over the weekend due to allegedly drown in swollen creeks and floodwaters;
  • The body of a 13-year old child named Kristhel Traquino Ferrer was found in Olongapo City;
  • In Baguio, Mencio Abol Amiten drowned on Saturday after he slipped and fell into a drainage canal;
  • Lastly, a resident from Marikina was found dead on Sunday

As per the report, the said flood, which caused by typhoon Karding (Yagi), disturbed at about 60,000 people in Metro Manila; Marikina; Pasig and Quezon City; and Rizal province. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III also followed up his warning to the public to avoid, if possible, wading in floodwaters to prevent falling ill from leptospirosis.
