DA Reveals Total Amount Of Agricultural Damage Due To Previous Typhoons
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has revealed the amount of agricultural damage due to the previous typhoons have been revealed.
Over the past few months, several typhoons have devastated and caused severe damage in the Philippines.
Typhoons Henry, Inday, and Josie have damages a huge amount of Agricultural products affecting the country’s economy.
The DA-Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Operation Center has presented their records showing that P1.6 billion was the total amount of agricultural damage.
DA revealed that 95,246 hectares of rice fields or about 19,892 metric tons of rice and 51,678 farmers in Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Western Visayas have been affected by the typhoons.
The previous typhoons cause P770 million worth of Agricultural damage in Central Luzon wherein Tarlac incurred over P423 million.
The regions of Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon was damage by at P147 million in fisheries.
Damage to high-value crops reached about P44 million while corn fields in Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija and Pampanga losses at least P19 million
La Union, Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur incurred about P4 million in livestock damage.
The Agriculture department allocates P180 million worth of assistance to rehabilitate farms and fishponds damaged by the typhoons.
“I am instructing ACPC (Agricultural Credit Policy Council) to allot P50 million for Pangasinan out of the P100 million existing under the PLEA (Production Loan Easy Acess) for Ilocos and Pangasinan,” Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said quoted by Philstar.
DA also released over 30, 000 bags of hybrid seeds including 100 bags of corn seeds and offers loans to the affected farmers and fishermen.
