Philippine-Made Satellite Finally Launched Into Space
The Philippine-made satellite created by Filipino engineers has been finally launched into the space from the United States.
On Friday afternoon (June 29, 2018 – PH Time), a Pinoy-built satellite named Maya-1 has been launched into space in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Maya-1 is a 10-cubic centimeter satellite made for research purposes packed with two cameras to capture images and film minimum resolution videos, according to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The Filipino-built cube satellite was the second satellite launched by the Philippines after Diwata-1 has been transported last 2016.
The satellite could determine the locations and broadcast signals from different satellites. It can also perform orbital analysis to measure atmospheric density.
The cube satellite was reportedly built to perform soil moisture analysis on land surfaces of the Philippines for agricultural application, according to DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI).
Maya-1 is only one of the three satellites launched by the SpaceX Falcon-9 CRS 15 for a resupply mission yesterday.
Malaysia and Bhutan have also launched their own cube satellites, which are considered to be a part of the second joint global multi-nation birds project of the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) in Japan.
