Netizen Seeks Help To Stop The Demolition Of 106-Year-Old Bridge In Negros Occidental

A 106-year-old bridge in Negros Occidental is up for demolition but a netizen was seeking help to stop the demolition of the historic bridge.

Historical landmarks and infrastructures contain significant values for some people especially for the historians who really know its value.

The government usually preserves the historical establishments and infrastructures for future references and to let other people know the history beyond those things.

Recently, the Facebook page “Philippine Shocking History” has shared the photo of a 106-year-old bridge in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, which is now up for demolition.

However, a netizen named Mark Ploteña was seeking help to stop the demolition of the historic bridge.

The new settlers in the town were known as “Tagahigad” and the place was initially called as “Ginigaran” from the word “Higad” after the arrival of the Spaniards. Eventually, the place was spelled and pronounced as “Hinigaran”.

History of The town
The new settlers were called “Tagahigad” and when the Spaniards came the place was called “Ginigaran” from the word “higad” but it was later spelled and pronounced as Hinigaran.

The town was founded in 1765 and Captain Basilio Mongcal was appointed as the first president in 1806. Among its first settlers were the families of Mongcal, Lagtapon, Cosio,Sario, David, Orin, Pido, Pabalinas, Luntayao, Javier, Vargas, Lucasan, Grijaldo,and Dano-og—some of whom were from Panay.”
