Series Of Strong Earthquakes Jolts Davao Province, Aftershocks Expected

The state volcanology agency Phivolcs reported that Davao province has been struck by series of strong earthquakes and expects numerous aftershocks.

On Monday (June 18, 2018), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that consecutive tectonic earthquakes struck the province of Davao Occidental on Sunday (June 17, 2018).

Davao Occidental was rocked by a series of strong tremors with the strongest magnitude recorded at 5.4, according to Phivolcs.

Strong Earthquakes

At 10:39 am, Davao province was struck by a magnitude 5.4 tremor with a depth of 122 km. It’s epicenter located at 25 kilometers northeast of Jose Abad Santos town.

Phivolcs recorded Intensity III in General Santos City and Alabel, Sarangani as well as Mati City.

At 11:42 am, a magnitude 2.4 earthquake was felt again in the province with a depth of 121 km, which epicenter was found at 23 km northeast of the same town of Jose Abad Santos.

Strong Earthquakes

At 11:57 am, a magnitude 2.8 tremor was located 24 km northeast of the same town of Jose Abad Santos with a depth of 118 km.

At 12:04 pm, a magnitude 2.3 quake was registered with a depth of 114 km and its epicenter was 25 km of the same town and province.

At 12:06 pm, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake was also recorded with a depth of 114 km and its epicenter was pinpointed 27 km northeast again of Jose Abad Santos town in the same province.

At 5:12 pm a magnitude 3.0 tremor was registered with a depth of 109 km and its epicenter was located 31 km northeast of the same town and province.

Phivolcs expects aftershocks but no tsunami alert has been raised.
