About 700 poor senior citizens of San Fernando, Pampanga affected by the TRAIN law received P2, 400 cash assistance from the Unconditional Cash Transfer program.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started giving out P2,400 cash assistance to the less-fortunate senior citizens of San Fernando, Pampanga.

DSWD gave out envelopes containing cash to indigent senior citizens under the Social Pension program of the government.

The senior citizens receive the cash assistance under the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) program of the government due to the impact of tax reform law.

About 3 million indigent senior citizens under the Social Pension Program will benefit from UCT.

DSWD Acting Sec. Virginia Orogo said that the P2,400 cash is for the entire 2018 covering P200 per month. She also explained that it was a small amount but they hope that it could help the elderlies with their daily cost of leaving.

“Hindi naman po ito malaking halaga. Ang hinihingi po namin ay paumanhin at sana makatulong din ito sa ating pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan,” Orogo said quoted by ABS-CBN.

The Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law mandated the cash assistance, which caused the price hike of basic commodities affecting the less-fortunate Filipino people.
