Endangered Hawksbill Turtle With Its Scutes Removed Found Dead In Negros Occidental
A critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle with its scutes removed has been found dead in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
The Hawksbill Sea Turtle is a critically endangered sea turtle belonging to the family Cheloniidae that can swim in the open ocean.
Hawksbill shells are highly priced because of its amazing beauty, which could be used in making jewelry, sungl(–foul word(s) removed–), ornaments, decorations, and other luxuries.
Recently, the Facebook page “Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines” has uploaded the photo of an endangered Hawksbill Turtle found dead at Sitio Batad, Brgy. Sampinit, Bago City in Negros Occidental.
The residents found the critically endangered species floating dead in the sea with its scutes removed.

“A critically endangered hawksbill turtle with its scutes removed was found floating dead off Sitio Batad, Brgy. Sampinit, Bago City in Negros Occidental yesterday. It has become a practice to pry off the scutes from a living turtle, usually by pouring boiling water on the carapace, so that they can be sold in the illegal wildlife trade market. Hawksbill scutes are highly prized for its beauty, which are turned into combs, jewelry, sungl(–foul word(s) removed–), ornaments, and other luxury and decorative items.”
