Filipino Scientist Invents The First-Ever Video Call In 1954
Filipino scientist Gregorio Y. Zara has invented the first-ever video call in the world last 1954 but neglected by the Philippine government.
Nowadays, most people are now using video chat to communicate with their friends, family, relatives, and loved ones.
However, video chat has been already invented before Skype video, Yahoo video, and Facebook video chat exist.
Recently, the Facebook page “Philippine Shocking History” has uploaded the story of a Filipino inventor who invented the first-ever video call in the world.
In 1954, Gregorio Y. Zara, a Filipino physicist and engineer has discovered the first video-chat in the world through television-telephone communication.
Zara invented a device that allows two people to see each other on a television while talking using the telephone.
Unfortunately, the Philippine government neglects and did not support Zara’s invention prompting him to sell it to foreigners.
The national scientist has 30 patents under his name including solar-energy device, a propeller-cutting machine, and an airplane engine that ran on plain alcohol as fuel aside from the videophone.
According to a commenter, Zara’s videophone did not reach the commercial market because it was expensive and impractical for using a transmission same as broadcasting a live television.
The Pinoy scientist died in 1978 leaving a legacy on everytime that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) connects with their family in the country using video call.
