Use Of Certain Casio Calculators During Board Exam Disallowed By PRC

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) prohibits examinees to use certain Casio calculators during licensure examinations.

Starting May 08, 2018 (Sunday), PRC will disallow the use of certain models of Casio calculators during the board exams or after this year’s first Civil Engineer licensure examinations.

The commission has issued the Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01 dated April 20, 2018, disallowing the use of Casio calculators FX-991ES, FX-991ES PLUS in the board exams.

The ban of those calculator units became one of the most controversial topics in the social media, especially for engineering board exam takers.

PRC Chairman Teofilo S. Pilando, Jr. has signed the memorandum prohibiting the use of Casio calculators FX-991ES, FX-991ES PLUS in licensure exams because of its programmable features.

However, there is still no confirmation of the Civil Engineer board exam on May 6-7, 2018 will be affected by the memorandum since the ban will take effect on May 08, 2018.

Supervisors and room watchers were also advised to implement stricter inspection of calculators to ensure that does not have audio-visual features or tampered.

  1. the black casio Fx-991 EX-plus is the one programmable… fx-991 es plus is not!.. It has been used since 2011.. i think the reason for this is business.. so that other model of casio will be sold also.. pls reconsider this scam!

    • Even the fx-991-EX is not programmable. Casio themselves confirmed this. As for scientific calculators, the fx-991 and fx-570 series of SciCals (be it the MS, ES, ES-Plus, EX) are all non-programmable. The only distinction between the two is that the fx-570 series lacks the two-way power system (a.k.a the solar cell).

This PRC’s decision of banning certain model of calculator deserves ridicule.
