About 114K Candidates For Barangay & SK Elections In Western Visayas Signed Up
More than 114,000 candidates for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections have already signed up in Western Visayas.
On Monday (April 23, 2018), Commission on Elections (Comelec) Regional Director Dennis Ausan said that a total of 114, 385 candidates emerged after the extension of the filing of candidacy last April 21, 2018.
Barangay positions offer about 73,222 slots including 64,462 bets for barangay councilor and 8,760 for barangay captain.
Meanwhile, there are 32,743 candidates for councilor and 8,420 candidates for chairman on SK positions.
Iloilo has the biggest number of candidates with 48,950 followed by Negros Occidental with 23,548, 14,933 bets in Capiz, 14,075 in Aklan province; 9,909 in Antique; and 2,970 in Guimaras.
The filing of candidacy in Western Visayas for barangay and SK candidates was generally peaceful, according to Comelec.
In Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, there are 15,281 male and 8,266 female who file candidacy for the election next year.
For the barangay positions, there are 1,545 candidates for barangay captain and 13, 127 for kagawad.
For the SK, there are 1,559 candidates for chairman, and 3,754 male and 3,562 female candidates for kagawad.
In 662 barangays of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, there is a total of 10,592 posts.
