Chief Justice Sereno To Face Fellow Justices At Court, First Time In PH History
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno will face her probing colleagues at the Supreme Court, which is the first time happened in the Philippine history.
On Tuesday (April 10, 2018), Sereno will defend herself at the Court and convince her rivals not to dismiss her from the post.
It was the first time in Philippine judiciary history that a Chief Justice will stand in the middle of a Supreme Court (SC) hearing.
On Monday (April 09, 2018), President Rodrigo Duterte has declared war against Chief Justice Sereno and he wanted her to be immediately removed from the position.
“I am putting you on notice that I am your enemy and you have to be out of the Supreme Court. I will request Congress to do it, the impeachment right away,” Duterte said quoted by Rappler.
However, Sereno didn’t clarify if she is willing to defend herself at the hearing standing her ground that she the right to use her lawyer to represent her.
Sereno will answer her non-submission of years’ worth of Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) when she applied for her position last 2012.
The Chief Justice stood her ground that she could be only ousted through an impeachment proceeding.
