Western Japan Shook By Magnitude 5.7 Earthquake Injuring About Three People

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has struck Western Japan leaving about three people injured and damaged several roads and buildings.

On Monday early morning (April 09, 2018), a shallow tremor has struck west of the main island of Honshu, 96 kilometers north of Hiroshima.

Initially, the Meteorological Agency reported that the quake has a magnitude of 6.1, but the United States Geological Survey (USGS) gave its strength as 5.7.

Magnitude 5.7 Earthquake

The tremor has damaged several roads and buildings, cut the electricity supply of about 50 households, and some 100 households lost their water supplies. At least three people also suffered minor injuries due to the quake.

Kyodo news agency said that there are no further problems has been reported at the nearby Shimane nuclear power station.

Japan is a country sitting on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” wherein most of the world’s earthquake and volcanic eruptions usually occurs.

Magnitude 5.7 Earthquake

On March 11, 2011, Japan has been also devastated by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake resulting to a huge tsunami, which took thousands of lives.
